When you have an illness you could end up staying at a hospital. Here you will be seen by a Doctor who might give you some medicine to prevent your illness which is prescribed by the pharmacy and a nurse who will look after you.
You may be asked to take part in a research Clinical trial for children at the hospital whilst you are there. They will need your consent and you don't have to participate if you don't wish too.
The organisation which supports paediatric research is called the Medicine for Children Research Network and co-ordinates with Local Research Networks about setting up and support the recruitment to clinical trials.
Alder Hey Children's hospital is were our network (Cheshire, Merseyside & North Wales Local Research Network) is based and not only does Alder Hey Children's Hospital treat patients it participates in world class research trials.
If you do decide to take part in a trial you will be given all the information you need about a trial and also about the illness you have too (e.g. if you have a fever you become hot - your question might be why do I become hot when I have a fever?).
When you are taking part on the trial we monitor all the data which we receive from the laboratory and see if the medicine is having any effect.
And when you have completed taking part in a trial you will have made lots of friends and helped us research into medicines which could cure your condition.
