The Local Research Networks cover

Cheshire, Merseyside & North Wales, MCRN East (Trent) , West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria, London, South East, North Central and East, South Central, North East, East Anglia and South West.

MCRN was set up as a Department of Health initiative to encourage and improve research in areas in need of further investigation.

The MCRN national co-ordinating centre was established in 2005 and the local networks were set up in 2006. Other networks also being set up under the same initiative are in Cancer, Diabetes, Stroke, Dementia and Neurodegenerative disease, Mental Health and Primary Care.
