We are one of six medicines for children local research networks and cover Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales. There are five other medicines for research networks (MCRN) across the country, and all support the same portfolio of studies adopted by a co-ordinating centre based in Liverpool. The staff structure of each network can vary as can the network of trusts they support.
Through the co-ordinating centre at national level, suitable research studies will be adopted following review by experts (clinical studies groups). The local research networks will be responsible for supporting the research studies within their geographical areas (including recruiting patients into trials), gaining local ethical approval and local research approval, facilitating multiple site involvement and publicising the research and helping feedback the results into clinical practice.
Consisting of ten District General Hospitals, two Specialist Centres and eight Primary Care Trusts it is a partnership of organisations who are willing to work together, with the underlying support of the LRN to facilitate better, the conduct of paediatric clinical trials. It covers a paediatric population (0-19yrs) of just over 760000. We also extend into 3 Trusts in North Wales.
